Daily Degrassi Rant
Dear Degrassi:
Just because Adam identifies as male doesn’t mean he’s not allowed to express emotional perception or frustration. Just because Holly J identifies as female doesn’t mean she’s not allowed to hold positions of power without being deemed a bitch.
I AM SO SICK OF THIS SHIT. I BLAME THE PATRIARCHY. Men can express qualities of weakness without being less manly. Woman can express qualities of strength without being uppity bitches or whores.
Eli, you drive a HEARSE as a memorial to your DEAD GIRLFRIEND. And you call Adam a “girl” as an INSULT because he wants to spend TIME with you, and he gets upset when you LIE to him? A pox on your house.
I like that Degrassi doesn’t treat too many things with after-school-special-style, and actually has sympathetic characters doing stupid crap. But I do NOT like that NOT ONCE this season has there been a SINGLE victory for feminism. If we’re supposed to be messing with preconceptions of gender and sexuality and promiscuity and whatever else, why do none of the characters point out that being FEMININE is NOT A JUDGMENT?
Ugh ugh ugh.
Tomorrow’s “I AM NOT A GIRL!” punch is just going to make stuff worse, I’m sure. Adam, you’re a guy because that’s what you want to be and I respect you enough to agree, but what if there’s a person who is both a boy AND a girl? What if there’s a boy who wants to be a girl? What then?
The fact that right now, Jenna and Anya are the two most empowered women on the show, is really starting to get to me. Ooooh how I hate them. But not as much as I hate KC!
