Still shippin’ it.
You know how I can tell how this was, unironically, a perfect show + end movie? And possibly one of the most enduringly well-made, perfectly rewatchable pieces of narrative media in the past twenty years?
Because even though I ship it like BURNING, and there’s one little payoff kiss in the end, I have never searched for fic.
It’s not, you know, CINEMA, or anything. It’s just a really really good show that managed to have continuity, charming and consistent characters, clear viewpoints, capable leads, and aired at the right time in my life.
Lizzie McGuire is one of those perfect little things that I like too much to get involved with fandom for. I refuse to sully it with fic. My own memories and emotions and random head tangents are MORE than perfect and enough for it all; I don’t want to risk replacing it with memories of some terrible fic written by 12 year olds and slapped up on the Pit.
This is pretty rare, btw. Normally I will watch a kids’ show and still be searching for fic fifteen, twenty years later. Space Cases? Sailor Moon? Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Possible other shows that start with S? But Lizzie McGuire and her BFF Gordo need to remain pristine.
No shame!
