• M/F OTP: Ron/Hermione. Yep. I’m boring/awesome like that. I know you all probably think that I identify really strongly with Hermione and that’s why I ship it but you would be wrong! I identify really strongly with RON. And he just loves her so so so much! And they are perfect. And it is adorable. And haters to the LEFT.
• M/M OTP: This is where it gets weird. Harry/Snape. I don’t even care. I ship it hardcore. Snarry ftw. Mostly I get into it post-canon when Harry is old and bitter and there was a lot of fantastic Snarry fic written during the hiatus between book 5 and 6 that I kind of consider the best part of Harry Potter, period. But I’m shameless and will even enjoy squicky chan stuff during the hogwarts years. THEY ARE BOTH ASSHOLES TOGETHER. That is why I love them. No other character backs up Harry’s inherent dickwadishness like Snape.
• F/F OTP: I firmly hold that Madam Hooch and Madam Pince are DOIN IT. Okay also it’s not really an OTP but I love Hermione/Ginny, as opposites-attract friends who share girl tips because boys are weird and gross, and as friends with benefits because it is hot, but then you get into some weird “You did WHAT? With my SISTER?” stuff that interferes with my Ron/Hermione thing. I JUST REALLY LIKE GINNY. SHE SHOULD HAVE ALL THE CUDDLES ON ALL THE BOOBIES.
• OT3: Ron/Harry/Hermione. I ship GoldenTrio almost as much as I ship Snarry, which is to say, A LOT A LOT. There are some GLORIOUS triofics written between books 6 and 7 that I loooove, and some amazing heartbreaking things where Ron dies and that’s the ONLY time I can justify Harry/Hermione because it’s all about displaced affection, and I just really love Ron dealing with how much he loves BOTH of them, and wow, I have a lot of feelings about OT3s.
• BROTP: Luna & Neville. I don’t ship them romantically at all, which it seems is completely weird and alien to everyone else on the whole internet. But oh MAN, they are the BEST best friends. Year seven ass kicking bros! Luna helps Neville look inward and Neville helps Luna look outward! Complimentary magic talents! Brains and Brawn! AMAZING I love them as besties so VERY much.
• Favorite Canon: Ron/Hermione! But I already talked about that. So secondarily, Arthur/Molly! WEASLEY PARENTS 4EVA! Oh my god how strong is their love to survive everything they go through? How amazing is Molly? How steadfast is Arthur? THEY ARE THE BEST.
• Favorite Crack: I declare that Snarry does not count as crack. My favorite crackship is prooobably Crookshanks/Sirius. I mean, if Crookshanks were an animagus. Or something. IDK! CATS AND DOGS CUDDLING AND BEING ANIMAL FRIENDS! I LOVE IT OKAY? OKAY.
• Guilty Pleasure: I have no guilt about ANYTHING in hp. I SHAMELESSLY ENJOY SNAPE/HARRY CHAN. I LIKE HORRIBLE BLOOD/SOULBONDING DUBCON VAMPIRE!SNAPE SNARRY CHAN. NO SHAME!!!!! NO GUILT! Okay but I guess the thing I feel a little guilty about is my complete suckerdom for loving it in fic when two stupid characters who should be in love but are just besties have crushes on other people so they “practice” on each other like IDIOTS. And they “practice” snogging and “practice” sex and “practice” falling asleep on top of each other and then FEELINGS and then OH NOES TALKING ABOUT FEELINGS and then it’s not practicing anymore and OH WOW it is cheesy.
• Pairing I Hate Don’t Understand: Harry/Hermione. I only get it in terms of OT3 triofic. And it’s not because of batshit Harmonians, either. I just… Harry wants family more than anything else in the world, and Hermione is his sister from pretty much day one. Seeing it as anything else, when Ron is not an intermediary… I just hate it. Can’t a girl and a boy love each other plantonically, ever??? But mostly it’s because RON! Roooonnnnnn~ I LOVE YOU RON YOU WILL NEVER BE ALONE IN MY HEAD~ *hugs self*

I will draw your name tomorrow and post it separately for easy reblobbin’ and because i am tie-tie! But to answer your question (which is a pretty great question, I have to sit and think about it *chinstroke*):

I would show them My Favorite Movie Of All Time: Fifth Element. First of all it’s just a damn amazing flick. Second of all it would make for a really interesting series of lesson plans from a wizarding angle. They could talk about the muggle conception of the future having elements similar to what wizards see as magic and what that means culturally and comparatively, discussing what wizards see as futuristic and comparing them. They could try to invent/adjust charms and potions to replicate effects of some of the special effects and things in the movie; wouldn’t it be cool to spell your voice so you could sing like the diva? And they could discuss the properties of trying to create life from a pattern like that - even wizard kids should know about DNA. And they could discuss the magical elements. Dumbledore, or whoever would take up his love-obsessed mantel, could pontificate at length about the power of love and how it is portrayed as a power in the film.

Gryffindors would be into Leeloo’s plot. Hufflepuffs would love all the great music and fashion and backstory. Ravenclaws would like the satirical bent on authority figures vs actual authority and all the clever bits. Slytherins would take heart in how Korben Dallas in all his grumpiness and pragmatism is still portrayed as the hero.

lego harry potter years 5-7

is the game I wished it would be.

I wish that it didn’t hew quite so closely to the movies in some of the details, but HOLY CRAP PERFECT GAME IS PERFECT. When I played years 1-4 I was like “this great, but I wish it would have this, this, this and this in it.” And then they made the sequel and put in ALL OF MY THISES. And didn’t take out any of the good bits. 

I’m, hrmmm, 1/3rd of the way through year 6? Not entirely sure, it’s less structured than the previous game so I can’t quite tell off the top of my head, but anyway, thus far my favorite new thing is probably the fact that Ron’s got PIGWIDGEON for a pet, and he’s SUPER spazzy. And my second favorite thing is how complex and detailed Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes is. In the movies you only saw it for like thirty damn seconds but they’ve pretty faithfully reproduced its scheme and decor in this game, and it’s a multilevel area you have to do in different stages as you get new abilities, so you really get to spend time enjoying all the detail. It’s brilliantly lively.

Wheeeeee, fun game is fun! Fun game also didn’t spend a single second retreading the skills and spells learned in the first game, either. I spent my gaming time actually doing new story stuff and not a second of it was tutorial-based.
