Half a Life is such a odd episode when you’re watching TNG all in a row (like ya do.) Season 4 is arguably the best season, and you’re chugging along, gearing up for the finale and then, woah. Majel shows up and just ~acts~ all over that damn ship.

Star Trek Remembering Majel Barrett-Roddenberry

Majel Leigh Hudec – better known as Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the First Lady of Star Trek – was born on this day in 1932, in Columbus, Ohio. Though she succumbed to cancer in December, 2008, at the age of 76, Barrett-Roddenberry lives on in the hearts of Trek fans worldwide and can still be seen (as Number One, Nurse Christine Chapel or Lwaxana Troi) and/or heard (as the voice of ship computers) in episodes of TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise (yes, she did a couple of episodes), as well as an array of Trek videogames and most of the Trek feature films, including Star Trek (2009).

Majel Barrett is a Trek icon. She made her first appearance in the unaired pilot, “The Cage”, as Number One, then went on to portray the recurring character of Nurse Chapel in the original series. She made a return to the Trek universe as Betazoid Ambassador Lwaxana Troi in a number of episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Majel brought each character to life, imbuing each with her own unique brand of sex appeal.

Majel Barrett passed away on December 18, 2008, leaving behind a decades-long legacy of elegance, charm, and beauty within the world of Star Trek.
